They arrived like a small convoy of
vans, SUV’s, pick-up trucks, and Jeeps. It was 9:00am on Monday,
July 25th. It was a hot and humid, gloomy day.
Twelve young people and 5 adults had
come to build me a ramp. The group was doing volunteer work for the
SOWER Work Mission Program, the main focus of the Epworth Center in
Bethesda, Ohio.
A greeting of smiling faces and a
group “Hello!” brought tears to my eyes. Then began the process of
measuring, sawing, digging, pounding, and much sweating. The rain
came in drizzles that didn’t stop this eager group of volunteers.
There even appeared to be some “rain dancing” in the yard.
During the lunch, we visited with the
ones who chose to eat indoors. Some of them were outgoing, while
others were quiet and timid. What a joy they were to us.
They returned on Tuesday and
Wednesday. The ramp was finished by noon Tuesday. It wasn’t “just a
ramp.” It was a piece of art. All our neighbors came to view and
admire the craftsmanship. We were, and still are, so proud of the
ramp that God provided. You know, He never does anything halfway, so
it’s only reasonable that my ramp would be a super duper, deluxe
one.
Thank you, Epworth Center, for making
this possible. The day I received news that my ramp would be built
was a very happy one for me. Thank you for taking on the expense of
the supplies needed to build the ramp. We couldn’t afford it
ourselves. The freedom this ramp has given me is indescribable. I
can ride my scooter down it and view the neighborhood on my own, or
drive down to the creek and admire God’s handiwork.
Thank you again, Rev. Wilson, and The
Epworth Center. May God continue to bless your ministry. Praise the
Lord!
In His most precious Name,
