Vacation Bible School:
Thank
you, SOWERS!Through
SOWER, 52 volunteers from Bethel United Methodist Church in
Spartanburg, South Carolina conducted two Vacation Bible School
programs for area churches. One in the Neffs community and the other
at Union Local Elementary School for Real Life Community of Faith.
These volunteers donated a week’s
time to come and share “Avalanche Ranch” VBS. They furnished all the
VBS materials, snacks, crafts, games, decorations and more. The
programs were run by the students of Bethel UMC, who were excited to
help. Many of the children who attended VBS were invited through
door-to-door outreach by the volunteers and are not regular church
attendees. Christina Harvey, Sunday School Coordinator at Real Life
said, “They’ve helped make this one of the best outreach
opportunities we’ve had here.”
In addition to VBS, the volunteers
plannned community outreach events. On Wednesday evening they held a
worship service and on Thursday there was a “block party” in Neffs,
featuring a cook out, Christian magicians, snow cones and more. Both
events were open to the public. Other community outreach included a
boys basketball tournament, visiting a local nursing home, and
spending time with the girls from the local Group Home.
